AALA
Speaker Series
William F.
Brennan of Altman Weil will present: "Budgeting for Increased
Profitability"
Law firm Executive Directors and
CFO’s are being asked to do more and
more sophisticated financial
analysis for their firms. Partners
want answers, not dozens of reports
with mountains of data that only
confuse them. And, even when
problems are identified, it is
extremely difficult to implement
change in a law firm. This session
links the preparation of the firm’s
annual budget with good financial
management practices and effective
ways to increase a firm’s
profitability, including getting
support from your partners.
Issues to be covered:
1.Budgeting: Why
is it important? – An overview
of the budgeting process for
professional service firms.
2. Financial Management
– There are hundreds of statistics
about economic performance that a
law firm can compute. Which are most
meaningful? Which should be reported
to the partners on a monthly basis?
What should they be compared to?
3. Increasing Profitability
– What are the key drivers of
profitability for all professional
service firms? Which of these
factors offers the greatest
potential for increasing profits?
What are some practical tips you can
implement in your firm? How can you
gain partner support to implement
changes needed to increase your
firm’s profitability?
